We looked at three popular options for office telephony: Phone.com, RingCentral and Grasshopper. All three of these have considerable online presences and along with Verizon and 8×8, have some of the highest subscriber numbers there are. If you are looking for a new business phone system provider for your workplace, we outline below, the range of services each of these three companies offers as well as an examination of their pricing packages.
What is a Business Phone System?
A business phone system is a wireless, cloud based telephony technology embedded on the internet. This wireless configuration allows workers to send and receive date, information and calls calls from anywhere using any of several possible computing devices including tablet, laptop or mobile device. Expensive hardware and maintenance costs are unneeded. This means that low pricing and great versatility are available.
Versatility of Internet Based Business Phone Systems
Cloud based telephony allows for a great number of business communication applications to be combined into a single service all offered by a single vendor. Reliability, reputation, cost, professionalism, ease of use and range of features were some of the considerations we made to determine how our three companies fared relative to each other

Headquartered in Newark, New Jersey. The company was founded in 2007. It offers a cloud hosted internet phone system for businesses of all sizes with more than 40 office features and utilities. Phone.com’s system is seamless and requires no maintaining nor costly hardware. The service is remarkably easy of set up and is almost instantaneous. A range of service packages are available. At the low end, there is a monthly base price of $12.99, which includes 300 minutes. Unlimited packages begin at $29.99 monthly for the Base, $37.99 for the Plus and lastly $54.99 for the Pro plan. With these packages come a wealth of features for each internet business phone system: 300 monthly minutes; unlimited user extensions; Voicemail to Email; 1 Local or Toll-Free Number; 40+ Stanard Features including Call Queuing; 5,000 SMS Messages; and more! One caveat with Phone.com is that there is an extra fee for some features that several other companies provide for free, such as call recording, analytics and video conferencing. This is noted in an otherwise positive review of Phone.com at Business.com
Based in Needham, Massachusetts, Grashopper was founded in 2003. Unlike the other two wireless business phone system companies above, it is geared towards small business customers including those composed of lone individuals. Grasshopper’s pricing is the highest of the three companies noted here. It begins at $26 for 1 number. It does come with 3 extensions. Reviews of the company point to a good product with room for improvement in a number of areas. PC Mag has a thorough review of the Grasshopper business phone system
